Following the recent reopening of the Bainskloof Pass, the breakfast ride on 10 July will be an opportunity to do a gentle ride through the pass to take in everything that is new. We will leave from Engen N1 Winelands outgoing and head through DuToitskloof Pass and then along the beautiful Slanghoek Valley road. We then turn left and ride through Bainskloof Pass with a stop at a good and safe point. Thereafter on to our breakfast venue at the Oakdale Club in Bellville. There we will be treated to their great value-for-money breakfast and coffee at your own cost. Andy will give a ride briefing at 08:15 and depart at 8:30 sharp, please don’t be late and ensure your bike is in good working order and filled up with petrol.
The ride will take us via Helshoogte Pass, Du Toits Pass, Slanghoek Valley and BainsKloof Pass.

About Dunstone Kitchen

The Stone Kitchen is our family bistro on Dunstone Country Estate,  owned, managed and run by an independent team. They offer classic home-style dishes to enjoy with our selection of cellar wines. A selection of hearty meals include; homemade burgers, quiches, ribs and steak. Lighter dishes are also available such as sandwiches, wraps and vineyard platters to share between friends.

The Stone Kitchen is a child-friendly bistro, offering a great kids’ menu and both indoor and outdoor play areas. Activities include a large soft play area with Lego table, climbing wall and mini-kitchen. Outside, kids can go wild on our jungle gym, play mini golf or mini soccer, swings, slides and more. Don’t forget to say hello to the farm animals that hang out most days – the porky pigs and the cheeky goats.

We are also doggie friendly, you are welcome to bring your well behaved social dog with you.

The BMW Motorrad Club Cape training team is presenting an across GPS training workshop where riders will be introduced to basic navigation and GPS skills across a variety of devices and systems.  The training session will consist of a theory and practical session.

Riders are encouraged to bring their own GPS units and laptops along to get the most value out of the session.
Topics that will be covered include basic navigation skills / planning routes / transferring planned routes
to the GPS unit and activating reading and using coordinates, tracks and saved routes / BMW TFT screen functionality

BMW Navigator V and VI / practical session etc.

Prince Albert calls

Join us for a ride to the picturesque town of Prince Albert on 12 & 13 August 2022.  We will be away for 2 nights as we explore the surrounding areas of the town, and you get to ride the fantastic routes in the area.  There will be both Dirt and Tar routes, and combination Dirt / Tar routes, so you will have lots of options.

Prince Albert is a town at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains, in South Africa’s Western Cape. It’s ringed by vineyards and fruit and olive farms.

The Agenda:

On the agenda for the weekend away is the famous “Die Hel”, Swartberg Pass, Meiringspoort, the Outeniqua Pass, dinner at the Swartberg Hotel, and dinner at the test kitchen, African Relish.  Lots to do and see, and lots to look forward to.

This will be a two nighter, with multiple route options.

Friday – we will take in Meiringspoort and Saturday – The Outeniqua Pass into George

• Mainly Tar / Some Dirt

Friday Tar most of the way – and then onto the dirt via Swartbergpass into Prince Albert

Saturday – Join the Tar ride to George via the Outeniqua Pass

Or – Join the Dirt ride to Die Hel

• Mainly Dirt / Some Tar

Starting in Franschhoek, the route takes you over the Franschhoek pass, past the Theewaterskloof dam, Botriver, Caledon, through the Hemel en Aarde Vallei to finish at the exclusive Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate. 100 scenic miles of gravel, asphalt and single track, with a total elevation gain of 2300 m – this promises to be one of those truly unique events not to be missed!

Tired of the cold and wet winter – as we head into Spring. Arniston overnight ride is always very popular for our club members, so if you haven’t joined us before, please join us this year for an unforgettable experience.

The Boland 100 Miler route takes place on beautiful
cycling roads in the majestic setting of the Boland in
the Western Cape. Included in the weekend offering is
the Boland 60 Miler, offering a more manageable
challenge. The race truly represents an iconic route and
a great end to an epic journey at the top of Du Toits
Kloof Pass. The race constitutes one of the toughest
challenges in South Africa for road riders.

WHAT WE COVER: BMW OFF-ROAD TRAINING DAYS : LEVELS 1, 2 & PILLIONS

The Level 1, 2 and pillion Off Road training is as per BMW standards. We prefer and recommend riders to do Level 1 first and then move to Level 2.  This way we know they have learned the basics.  We recommend riders with a new bike to do a refresher of Lev 1 or 2 depending on their riding abilities as each bike have its own bonding space and dynamics.

Only 1 level can be completed on a day.

We cover:

– theory about rider gear, safety, rider position, bike set-up, dynamics of the BMW bike, tyre pressures, etc

– Level 1: Explaining and adjusting the motorcycle, ABS de-activation, rider position, Off Road steering, cone riding, balancing, picking up the bike, leading the bike, slow riding, braking

– Level 2: Bike set-up, tyre pressures, rider position, cone riding, body position, off-camber riding and steering, stopping and pulling away against an incline,  uphill & down hill riding, sharp turns, high speed braking on gravel,  bike recovery and if the group’s progress is quick enough and all seems competent:  sand riding, technical ride up a jeep track, gymkhana, sand and trail riding, etc.

Remember our rules still apply:  you only do what you feel comfortable with.  Come and have fun on that GS and challenge yourself .

We also cater for other brands.  Feel free to invite your friend/s on his Yamaha, KTM, Tenére etc.

Training venue:

We are fortunate to use the facilities at Anura Vineyards, Klapmuts, for most of our training days. Training venues will differ depending on the event.

Old Mutual Wealth, the Pedal Power Association and the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust can’t wait to welcome all cyclists and support drivers to the 2021 edition of the Old Mutual Wealth Double Century taking place November 2022 in Swellendam.

It takes a certain type of person to tackle a race such as this, and we commend you on the hours and dedication you’ve put in to make it to the start line. To those who are doing the Old Mutual Wealth Double Century for the first time (and the regulars) please keep it safe, before and during the event. As in previous years, conditions can be hazardous if the weather turns, and there will be roadworks again. You will find out more as you navigate our website, which should hopefully answer any questions you have about the event. If we have missed something, don’t hesitate to ask through one of our social media or direct contact channels.
