BMWMCC Breakfast Ride to Café on the Hill – 16th August 2026

Join us for a relaxed and scenic all-tar breakfast ride through some of the Western Cape’s beautiful mountain and wine-growing regions.  This ride is open to everyone – BMWMCC members, non-members, and riders of all motorcycle brands are welcome to join us. Whether you’re new to group riding or a regular participant, we’d be delighted to have you along.  This ride is beginner-friendly, pillion-friendly, and suitable for riders looking for an enjoyable morning outing with fellow motorcycle enthusiasts.

Route

Depart Engen Winelands One Stop 09h00, on N1 and left off N1 before the Huguenot Tunnel & Toll. Continue on the R101 over Du Toits Kloof Pass turning towards Rawsonville at the N1 weighbridge, left at the Rawsonville /Slanghoek intersection, onto Slanghoek Road.

Continue past Goudini to a short break at Slanghoek Mountain Resort’s parking area. Continue Northwards crossing the Berg River low water bridge, intersecting the R43 and left heading towards Wolseley and Ceres, past the Wolseley turnoff and continuing to a left off the R43 to Cafe on the hill.

Return to Cape Town on own route or join with other riders, as one wishes.
Most direct route ‘home’ +/- 140 km from the venue to Cape Town.

Off-Road Rider Training | Level 1 & Pillion

Join the BMW Motorrad Club Cape off-road training team for a full day dedicated to improving your adventure riding skills. These sessions are designed to help riders become more confident and capable off-road while enjoying a relaxed and supportive learning environment.

Whether you’re taking your first steps into off-road riding, refreshing your fundamentals, or learning how to ride safely with a pillion, this training day offers practical skills that will help you feel more comfortable and in control on your bike.

➡️ Please note that only one training option can be completed per day.

Riders who have recently changed or upgraded their motorcycle are encouraged to attend a Level 1 refresher session, as every bike handles differently and requires some adjustment.

Our training philosophy is simple — ride within your ability, focus on building skills gradually, and most importantly enjoy the experience.

• Overview of rider safety gear
• Body positioning and riding posture
• Understanding motorcycle dynamics (BMW specific)
• Tyre pressures and off-road considerations
• Core off-road riding techniques

Level 1 Practical Training

• Disabling ABS for off-road conditions
• Correct standing riding position
• Steering techniques for loose terrain

Spring is one of the most beautiful times of the year to explore the West Coast by motorcycle, and we’re heading to the charming farming town of Hopefield for another memorable Breakfast Ride.

Our destination is The Copper Kettle, a delightful country café renowned for its warm hospitality, hearty breakfasts and relaxed atmosphere. With safe parking for our motorcycles and a welcoming setting, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely breakfast while catching up with fellow riders.

The Ride

We’ll enjoy a short run along the N7 before taking the Philadelphia turn-off, then onto the quiet Old Malmesbury Road. From there, we’ll continue to Malmesbury, the charming village of Darling and on to Hopefield. Expect flowing country roads, sweeping bends, rolling farmland and wide-open spaces.

The ride covers approximately 133 km and will take around 1 hour 45 minutes at a relaxed touring pace.

It’s about enjoying the journey as much as the destination. Once we leave Cape Town behind, we’ll settle into a comfortable touring pace.  The route is suitable for riders of all experience levels and is ideal for pillions too.

Whether you’re joining us for the ride, the breakfast or simply the great company, this is the perfect way to spend a spring Sunday morning.

BMWMCC Breakfast Ride to Black Marlin Restaurant – Sunday 4th October 2026

Six Passes Ride 11th October 2026

Time: Meet at 7:30.  Ride Briefing at 7:50 and departure at 8:00

After leaving BP Klapmuts we will head to Helshooghte Pass then through Franschoek over Franschoek Pass towards Rawsonville and over du Toitskloof Pass before turning towards Wellington. Then over Bainskloof Pass and left to Wolsley where we will have a refueling / coffee stop at the Total Wolsley [The distance from the departure point is 223 kms] then its off over Nuwekloof Pass and towards Riebeeck Kasteel and over the Bothmaskloof Pass before heading to MC Tyres where a Boerie Roll and chips or a burger and chips plus a cool drink will be waiting.

The total distance for the route is 336 kms and the riding time is about 5 hours.

……As of date of publishing this event, Franschoek pass is closed.  If not open by 11th October then the route will be changed……

Members and Non members all welcome.  The route is all tar and suitable for pillions.
All makes of bikes welcome to join the ride.

Cost R100 per person which includes your meal and cool at the end.

Take your adventure riding skills to the next level with a full-day off-road training experience hosted by the BMW Motorrad Club Cape training team. These sessions are designed to help riders develop better control, confidence, and understanding of their motorcycles when riding off-road.

Whether you are just starting your off-road journey, looking to strengthen your fundamentals, or planning to ride with a passenger, this training day offers valuable techniques and practical exercises to improve your riding ability.

• Stopping and pulling away on an incline
• Uphill and downhill riding techniques
• Sharp turns and tighter manoeuvres
• High-speed braking on gravel
• Bike recovery techniques

If the group progresses well and demonstrates sufficient competence, additional exercises may include:

• Sand riding
• Technical riding on jeep tracks
• Gymkhana-style riding challenges
• Sand and trail riding exercises

Departing from Engen Winelands One Stop, we’ll travel along the N1 before taking the R101 through Wellington and into the historic Bainskloof Pass. We’ll enjoy a leisurely ride through the pass, with a brief stop to take in the spectacular views across the Cape’s wine and wheatlands. From there, we’ll continue towards Worcester before turning into the picturesque Slanghoek Valley, following the scenic route to Die Eike at Goudini for breakfast (for your own account).

After breakfast, riders are welcome to return to Cape Town via their own preferred route or join fellow riders for the journey home.
Come along for a morning of beautiful roads, stunning mountain scenery and great company in the heart of the Cape Winelands.
