BMWMCC OFF-ROAD TRAINING DAYS: LEVELS 1, 2 & PILLION
September Off-road training day 17th September 2023
The Level 1, 2 and pillion Off Road training is as per BMW standards.
We prefer and recommend riders to do Level 1 first and then move to Level 2. This way we know they have learned the basics. We recommend riders with a new bike do a refresher of Level 1 or 2 depending on their riding abilities as each bike has its own bonding space and dynamics.
Only one level can be completed on a particular day, secondly it builds your confidence to allow time between training days.
What we will cover Off-road training day?
-Theory of rider gear, safety, rider position, bike set-up, dynamics of the BMW bike, including tyre pressures, etc
– Level 1: Explaining and adjusting the motorcycle, ABS de-activation, rider position, Off-road steering, cone riding, balancing, picking up the bike, leading the bike, slow riding, braking
– Level 2: Bike set-up, tyre pressures, rider position, cone riding, body position, off-camber riding and steering, stopping and pulling away against an incline, uphill & downhill riding, sharp turns, high speed braking on gravel, bike recovery and if the group’s progress is quick enough and all seems competent: sand riding, technical ride up a jeep track, gymkhana, sand and trail riding, etc.
Remember our rules still apply: you only do what you feel comfortable with. Come and have fun on that GS and challenge yourself. We also cater for other brands. Feel free to invite your friend/s .

We will be making George our home-base to go and explore the amazing passes in the area (7 Passes, Robinson, Montague, Kom se pad, Prince Alfred, Attaquaskloof to name a few depending on conditions).
We have a fun-filled weekend planned, that will assist you to gain confidence on your motorcycle, various environments, and touring. The long weekend will consist of a long-distance ride to our destination, which will be used as a home-base for exploring in the area. We have interesting routes planned for various skill levels that would suit Level 1 and Level 2 riders that have completed the BMW training days. The level 1 routes will be basic on hard-compact gravel and tar mountain passes, while the level 2 routes will take riders through a variety of gravel-highways, jeep tracks and mountain trails.
Riders are welcome to bring partners/pillions along. The more the merrier. There is also plenty of time for partners to relax and enjoy the scenery and hiking trails at the accommodation should they wish to.
This weekend is suitable for those riders new to gravel or to take you to the next level. The level 1 route will be pillion friendly. Level 1 & pillion and Level 2 riders will form two separate groups. The purpose of this weekend is to build up kilometres under the belt, gain experience in motorcycle touring and help you be a more relaxed and experienced rider on the “loose stuff”.
About the rides & training:
There will be plenty of stops to adjust your gear and bike as needed, because this makes your ride more comfortable.
The Level 1 and Pillion group will be led by Neels and Carel and will take you on a relaxed, scenic route with stops to discuss and demonstrate rider position and techniques. The route will take you on farm roads with suitable surfaces for the beginner or the rider who needs to clear the cobwebs.
The Level 2 group will be led by Arno & Theo and will take you on a route with more challenging and technical areas. Only riders who have completed the Level 2 training/or similar advanced training days will be allowed on this ride.
Both groups will re-group at the home-base on the two days to catch up on the day’s adventures.
What is included:
Accommodation, dinner, breakfast, back-up vehicle with trailer accommodating 2x motorcycles and training fees. (Fuel, snacks etc will be for your own account).
