Monthly meeting minutes 24th Nov 2020

1. WELCOME Wouter welcomed all members

6. TRIP REPORTS – Jacques Bekker … Calitzdorp Karoo trip 30 Oct ~ 2 Nov and Car Koch received trip report cups
7. PAST RIDES AND EVENTS:
a) 1st November 2020 Elgin Railway Market breakfast ride … Carl Koch gave a talk on the ride of 24 bikes one minor incident and an amazing ride love people and great food and venue. The route went through Helshooghte and Franshoek Pass.
b) 15th November 2020 Marc’s Beach Bar Langebaan … Mike Henderson gave us a chat about the Westcoast ride to Marc’s Bar. The reserved parking, coffee station and customised menu all arrange by the owner. Very enjoyable experience with Simon making a video and Wendy taking photos.
c) 21st November marshals at DC Swellendam … Donavan chatted about the most recent marshalling event and the trial of a new mapping system that he put together for on-the-spot reporting. The performance of the marshals made a huge difference to the success of the event which was closely watched by various officials with Covid19 in mind. This was the 1st event of this kind since lockdown. The marshals represented the club, the comradie and the rewarding effort was appreciated by organisers and cyclist.

8. FUTURE RIDES AND EVENTS:

a) 29th November Off-road training ride … Arno discussed what to expect on the last training [out ride] Level 1 &2 13riders on Level 1and space on Level 2 still
b) 29th November breakfast ride mystery … Wouter is taking a breakfast ride to Franschhoek details to follow on the Facebook page
c) 6th December Xmas lunch ride …. Wouter chatted about the up-coming Christmas lunch ride, different way for the club to celebrate. There is still place and members should book with Jacqui. Lunch for members own account, there will be a complimentary drink paid for by the club. The venue can accommodate up to 80 people.

d) 13th December breakfast ride Kleinmond … David told us what to expect on the route and the venue. The return route will be via the passes and depending on how people felt possible back via a dirt road.

 

9. General
a) Repeat request … Club WhatsApp ask members to join by adding the number to their contacts list [0833293920] A number of people added the club WhatsApp number to their phones so as to join the broadcast group.
b) Year-end function 6th December … Jacqui/Wouter referred to what was discussed in 8c above
c) Renewal of club membership, due date and benefit of renewing now …. David gave a short talk about renewal of membership the current subscription expires end of March. He appealed to everybody to renew as soon as possible to avoid forgetting over the holiday season. David mentioned we doing extra rides and members benefit on training. ICE stickers, Wouter thanked Hennie for printing them.
d) Committee roles, additions and welcome … Wouter explained the committee roles since this is the first meeting after the AGM and the committee meeting. Donavan added to look after marshalling and safety training. Wouter explained that Arno was cooped and will represent the training sector. Geoff will be doing more off-road rides for the club. Wouter Chairman, David Vice-Chairman, Rouen Club secretary, Magda Club Treasurer, Ian website and Geoff additional member. These positions to be held until the end of March.
e) Change to club badge and BMW logo … Ian explained the changes to the BMW logo and rondel. It has been made transparent so it can be printed on any colour background. This gave the club an opportunity to change the club signet/badge. Ian showed what we have changed to using Table Mountain and the boxer engine. The advantage is easier to print and embroider for future club use. Ian explained that the Boxer motor is iconic tour club and it represents the majority of the BMW products.
f) Ian asked if members could help us with a ticket test, Rouen will set up a test ticket event and if members could please book and if any are duplicated please supply feedback how it happened.

Guest speaker
We had a demonstration of a number of items by Chris Grinton of FlyingBrick and a quick talk which was very informative.
