Chairmans Report 2024 – David ffoulkes
-
In preparation for tonight I looked back at what I said at my first meeting as Chairman as well as what I said at each AGM after that. Tonight, I complete my term of 3 years and as required by our Constitution it is now time for me to stand down and hand the reigns over to someone else, although I will continue on the Committee in another role.
We purposely wrote the Constitution in that way to ensure that we have regular renewal of the key positions and I honestly believe that policy has served the club well. I am inclined to be very critical at times and I purposely looked back to see what we could perhaps have done better, now with the benefit of hindsight, and yes one can always find something to criticize, but on the whole I think our members are satisfied with the work we as the Committee have done over the last 3 years – our communication systems are working well, our events calendar is indisputably the best in the BMW Clubs Africa group, we have not had any complaints – and these are all elements to be proud of – not only do we as the committee work very well together, but the entire membership works well together. I am mindful that we are all members of this club, primarily to have a good time together and to share our experiences – and this past year was again one of those.
The Committee will change slightly this year as Jacqui has other priorities to address – she has done wonderful work over the last three years – and will be missed, although we will still see plenty of her on rides and other events. She just needs to spend more time on other important matters in her life – and we fully understand that. Many thanks to you – you have served the club proudly.
Froggy also needs to stand down as Treasurer, although he will remain on the Committee in another capacity – many thanks Froggy for your 3 years of hard work keeping the finance wheels running smoothly – for me it has been heartening to see how you prioritise club finance issues despite your already busy work schedule – a massive thanks to you for that.
Karen Verhulp has been nominated and seconded on to the Committee and we are very happy to have her back.
Then to the rest of the Committee – many thanks for what you have done for the club – your dedication and commitment is seen by all of us – you are all what makes this club such a successful one and I am extremely proud of each one of you. We are all volunteers and passionate about the club and this of course includes our very dedicated Training team as well as our fantastic Moto Marshals.
And then to all our members, thank you for what you all bring to the club, a lot of interesting discussions, a good sense of humour and above all lots of responsible riding – which makes it a pleasure for everyone. Thank you all.
