Short section between hotels and split up with tarred sections. Geoff was hoping for more inexperienced riders and more ladies joining the tour but hoped that would increase in the future. 9 nights, 10 days 2600 Km. 3 rest days in between. Geoff related how his and Arno’s GPs would not agree on the direction they needed to take [like an unhappy married couple] Jacqui who had only done one other off-road trip, won the award for the most improved rider. David mentioned Geoff ability to avoid rain and said they narrowly missed the down pours each day.

No clouds in the sky, the hills coved in bright yellow canola blossoms and a few Spring flowers. Chatting, laughing over breakfast and really enjoying each other’s company. Rouen thanked Ed Dawson for sweeping on the ride.
g) Breakfast ride Freedom301 29th Aug 2021 … Andy, aka [Froggy] described the ride to Freedon301, 13 bikes with 15 people. Starting from Donford Stellenbosch, he described the route with a break at Theewaterskloof dam with the surrounding mountains covered in snow. We rode via a crowded Franschhoek Pass, through town and onto Freedom301 via a curvy country road.
8. FUTURE RIDES AND EVENTS:
a) Overnight ride Arniston Hotel 4th September 2021 … Ian said the ride was fully booked but we had a last-minute cancellation. One open spot, Ian asked if anyone wanted to take the slot. We have 24 bikes going and a number of people joining them at the hotel. He explained the route would be via Barrydale, lunch there then onto Arniston. Ian mentioned there are only 3 dirty rout riders and Geoff said if its raining we’ll all go with the tar group.
b) Marshal event 4th September … Donavan gave a summary of the upcoming marshalling events and the team 15 marshals, is eager to get involved after Covid. This weekend they will be active on the 164 Km “Race to the Sea” cycle race [80% off-road]. The next activities will be the Cape Town Cycle tour, Sanlam Marathon and the Boland 100 cycle tour.
c) Sand riding Atlantis 4th September … Arno spoke about the training team activity on the sand. This year they limited the participants to the more competent rider required to get their bike onto the sand rather than spending all day getting there. They are expecting 8 people for the training but will accommodate up to15 on the day. They expect the sand to be hard due to the rain. They will cover the basic and then have fun doing riding.
d) Breakfast ride Eight Feet Village 12th September … Geoff described the new venue and discovered that it had been broken into so the ride will go to another venue in the area. It reverts to a Mystery ride.

f) Tar ride training 19th September … Arno said this would be a new section that the training team will perform. The club used the track in the pass for this training but not viable now. The training will be at Donford Stellenbosch in the parking area. They will cover theory and practical skills then after lunch they will do an out-ride. Over Helshoogte or Du Toits Kloof Pass. Arno mentioned the training team will be taking an off-road trip to Cederberg Oasis, 1st weekend in October. Ride leader Carel.
g) Geoff had a few words about the upcoming tour to Hogsback, see details on the website. He will try this road tour for members to bring pillion, it was not popular in the pass but with renewed interest we hoping for a good turnout.
