Our much anticipated Christmas in July weekend proved once again why these longer club rides are always a highlight on the BMW Motorcycle Club Pretoria calendar.
Led by Rick Stadman, with Sue Coetzee as Sweep, members made their way to the beautiful Critchley Hackle Lodge in Dullstroom, covering approximately 266 km through Gauteng and Mpumalanga. While sections of the route presented potholes, roadworks and busy traffic, the overall ride was enjoyable, with everyone arriving safely at our destination.
Friday evening’s Christmas in July celebration at the Coachman Restaurant was undoubtedly one of the weekend’s highlights. Good food, great company, Secret Santa gifts and plenty of festive spirit created a memorable evening enjoyed by almost everyone. The thoughtful table gifts and the dedicated venue added a special touch to the celebrations.
Saturday offered something for everyone. A group of riders tackled the scenic roads through Lydenburg, Long Tom Pass and Sabie, while others explored Dullstroom, browsed the local shops, relaxed at the spa or simply enjoyed the town’s unique atmosphere. Live music, cosy restaurants, roaring fireplaces and good conversation ensured there was never a dull moment.
Like any tour, there were a few lessons learned. Some members experienced accommodation issues and breakfast arrangements required a little detective work before The Rose Cottage became the perfect solution for the group. Despite these minor inconveniences, the overwhelming feedback was positive, with members appreciating the fellowship, spectacular riding roads and the opportunity to spend quality time together.
The only unfortunate incident occurred on the journey home when Aly’s vehicle suffered a mechanical failure near Emalahleni and had to be transported back to Pretoria. Thankfully, no injuries were reported and all members returned home safely.
A sincere thank you to ride leader Rick Stadman and sweep Sue Coetzee for the planning and leadership that made another successful club tour possible. Weekends like these remind us that while the destination is always worth visiting, it’s the friendships, shared experiences and kilometres ridden together that make every BMW Motorcycle Club Pretoria adventure truly memorable.
